Musical Dice -- My Craps Blog
February 5, 2026 -- THE BOBBY BROWN ROLL
I learbed today is singer Bobby Brown's birthday. So why is this relevant to craps? Anyone who has seen me play, also have seen me use terms like February 6 -- Ronald Reagan and February 9 -- The Earthquake Roll. This new term falls in line with the other two terms. For those who don't know, I say February, whenever the roll makes me $28, the number of days in February. I say Ronald Reagan, when a 6 makes me $28 because February 6th was Ronald Reagan's birthday. And I say February 9 -- The Earthquake Roll whne a 9 makes me $28, and I say The Earthquake Roll because I was in a major earthquake in Southern California, on February 9th, 1971 (BTW, I could also say February 9 -- Carole King, because her birthday is February 9th, and one of her most famous songs is "I Feel The Earth Move"). So now, I'm going to add February 5 -- Bobby Brown to my craps vocabulary. Watch for me using that term in the near future. ☺
February 9-11, 2026 -- LAKE CHARLES XLIX -- Can The Streak Continue?
The last trip ended with 10 casino wins in a row. The big question, going into this trip to Lake Charles, would be, can this win streak of mine continue? Let's find out!
Day 1 -- Accelerated Start
When my wife and I arrived in Lake Charles, our room at L'Auberge wasn't ready yet. So I decided to gamble. I immediately went to a craps table. I was eager to try a press strategy I call the Accelerated Quarters strategy (in reality, it was the press strategy that was part of the 4X + 1 Strategy). This table was a $25 table. I had an additional strategy to try: I was going to do a 220 inside strategy, taking the bets down to 110 inside for at least a $30 profit, and then employ the Accelerated Quarters strategy, if the shooter was a random shooter, and if the table seemed right. If the shooter was a so-called controlled shooter, I'd bet five units on the inside numbers, and do a Pass Line bet with 1X odds. After three hits on the Place bets, I'd go into Accelerated Quarters at that time. The latter scenario was what happened, as the shooter was setting the dice, and seemed to know what he was doing. After the three hits, I branched out to the 4 and 10, and with each subsequent hit, I'd press the bet up by a quarter (30 for the 6 and 8). With most of the numbers, I was able to press them up to more than two quarters, and it's then that one would really see profits with this strategy. In fact, I had 5 and 6 pressed up to 5 quarters. I was really cutting up at this table, even yelling "Bull-llackout!" several times--something I hadn't been able to do in quite a while. The result was my first 500 Club in 3½ months, and the win was easily enough to be my best win of the year, thus far, in fact, more than four times my previous best this year. I ended up winning $1094 at the craps table. What a way to start a trip!
It would be another two hours before the room was ready, and I was ready for a rest. We rested until our dinner date at Ember Steakhouse.
Unfortunately, I didn't eat much, for my stomach wasn't feeling right, probably due to something I ate this morning, prior to coming out to Lake Charles. What I did eat was delicious, but I took it easy, for I sure as hell didn't want a repeat of what happened at SW Steakhouse three months ago, where I threw up. That didn't happen here, thank god, but I decided to take it easy, and rest for the rest of the night, making this session the only one of the day. But a $1094 win for the day is still great.
Day 2 -- Reality Check
After the euphoria of what happened yesterday, you can bet I was eager to go at it again today. Boy, did I get smacked back down to reality!
At L'Auberge, I first played blackjack. I figured why not, since this game is where I win most often. Not so this session! I ran into a real cold deck, playing single-deck, and I lost $850.
And when I went to the craps table, things weren't any better. My shooting wasn't enough to get my money back, plus nobody else was shooting good either. And even when I played the Don'ts, that was the wrong move. I lost $587 at the craps table, for a total session loss of $1437. All that beautiful profit was now gone.
Before lunch, my wife and I went to Golden Nugget, where I was only able to play blackjack (the craps table was full). I won $100 there. I still had hope of getting back into the positive.
But that all fell by the wayside when we returned to Golden Nugget. I wanted to play poker first. Big mistake! I did good at first, but ended up being coolered several times, and I went on tilt, and I lost $529 altogether.
I did win $100 of lt back at the blackjack table. Then I played craps. I fell behind at first, then started to get it back off a shooter, who apparently was rather new to the game, and he kept missing the back wall with at least one of his dice when he shot. Eventually, the dealers gave me the dice, since I was the next shooter. I didn't even count how many times I rolled, since I was pinch-hitting for someone else. I just know I was using the Hardway dice set from Stick Right 1, shooting the dice in a cross-lane manner, and it worked sufficiently well to get my money back, plus $41, for a total session loss of $388.
We returned to L'Auberge, where the craps table was full. I decided to play blackjack first, hoping this morning's session was just a fluke. Nope! This table was just as bad, and I lost $775. By the time I finished, a second craps table had opened, but I decided not to play anymore today. Well damn, I lost exactly $2500 today, so right now, I'm down $1406 for the trip. What a dose of reality today has neen!!
Day 3 -- Lost And Found
Last night, my wife discovered that she was missing one of her hearing aids (she is hearing impaired). She was able to trace the hearing aid to somewhere in the Golden Nugget casino. For that one reason, we went there for breakfast, and also in hope of maybe finding the very small heading aid. I decided to play craps there as well. Mrs. MusicalDice was elated, when she found her hearing aid, which had fallen to the floor and under a chair, where she was sitting, while she watched me play craps yesterday. I wasn't as fortunate at the craps table. After twice getting sniped playing the Don'ts, I switched to light-side play, and the dice really went cold. I lost $799 at that table. I declared myself all gambled out at this point, losing $2205 for the trip. At least I lost the least playing craps--only $251.
