Musical Dice -- My Biggest Gambling Wins By Year
Written July 13, 2025
Every once in a while, I look back at my biggest gambling wins for each year that I've gambled. I figured, why not give the reader such a glimpse into those wins? That's what this article is all about.
The first time I ever gambled in a casino was on August 21, 1993, at Bally's in Atlantic City. I lost $180 playing roulette. The first win I ever got, was on October 6, 1993, at the Sands casino in Atlantic City, where I won $41 playing roulette, after hitting 36 where I had more than one bet. I left immediately afterwards. It may have been that experience that shaped my being such a hit-and-run gambler.
The first time I ever played craps was on July 12, 1998, at the Showboat casino in Las Vegas (before it became the Castaways--now demolished). I won $28 at a $3 table. The rest was history.
However, I never started taking gambling seriously until just after 9/11. It was then that I started keeping records of my results, and it's because of that, that I'm able to create this article. Enjoy!
YEAR | BEST WIN | DATE | CASINO | LOCATION | GAME(S) | COMMENTS |
2025 | $949 | 4/24/2025 | Palazzo | Las Vegas, NV | Poker | Lost $228 at 2/3 No-Limit Hold 'Em, then won $1177 at 3/5 No-Limit, in a Pot-Limit Omaha double-board bomb pot!!!! Best craps win was for $505 on 4/23/2025 at Green Valley Ranch (in Henderson NV), on someone else's roll. Even got to say "Bull-llackout!" twice. This occurred on Bryan (from Hawaii Craps Shooters)'s 50th birthday!! |
2024 | $1281 | 10/29/2024 | L'Auberge | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | Someone else had the monster roll. Got to yell "Bull-llackout!" at least 5 times! |
2023 | $1800 | 11/16/2023 | Golden Nugget | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | Bought in for a total of $700. Someone else had the mega-roll that lasted over an hour. I was carrying on so much that I screamed myself hoarse! This win took down a 21-year record of mine!! |
2022 | $898 | 2/28/2022 | Golden Nugget | Lake Charles, LA | Poker | Having Pocket Rockets twice within an hour helps! One of those times, someone went all-in against me with Pocket Kings. Best craps win was $503, which happened 9/25/2022 at the Excalibur in Las Vegas, where I shot 32 times to get the win. |
2021 | $1493 | 12/6/2021 | L'Auberge | Lake Charles, LA | Poker, Blackjack, Craps | Mostly on a bonus prize I won as part of a promotion in the Poker Room (for details, see the blog entry for December, 2021. Only $18 was at the craps table, and $150 was at the blackjack table. |
2020 | $522.50 | 1/23/2020 | Golden Nugget | Lake Charles, LA | Blackjack | My best craps win was $147 (part of a losing session, in fact!) at L'Auberge in Baton Rouge LA on 2/18/2020. Mrs. MusicalDice was the shooter, in fact! This was the best I could do before the pandemic hit. |
2019 | $625 | 6/5/2019 | L'Auberge | Lake Charles, LA | Blackjack | Two blackjack tables combined to get this win. Best craps win was $235 at Golden Nugget in Lake Charles on 7/10/2019 (part of a huge LOSS, in fact!). |
2018 | $598 | 12/1/2018 | L'Auberge | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | I was the shooter, shooting 35 times, using the Hardway dice set from Stick Left 1. |
2017 | $614 | 4/5/2017 | Golden Nugget | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | First 500 Club of the year ended up being my biggest win of the year--and it was off a random roller! This session took place from about 3:15 to about 4:00 in the morning. |
2016 | $701 | 6/7/2016 | Golden Nugget | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | I was the shooter, using the Crossed-Sixes dice set from one of the ends. This shoot was capped off by my rolling a Hard 6, making $255 off the roll (including $45 from a Hard 6 bet). I yelled out "Double Bull-llackout!!" while Mrs. MusicalDice screamed along, cheering. |
2015 | $625 | 6/18/2015 | L'Auberge | Lake Charles, LA | Blackjack | Best craps win was $465, which occurred at Harrah's in New Orleans on 6/11/2015. I made 5 points on my roll. This was part of a hard-fought 500 Club, in which two poker wins offset a blackjack loss. Also worthy of note was the fact that I cracked someone's Pocket Aces with 10-7 suited, and he was still pissed off about that when he saw me 12 hours later! |
2014 | $232 | 12/5/2014 | Isle Of Capri | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | Isle Of Capri is now the Horseshoe. 2014 was a HORRIBLE year for me financially, and I was only able to go to the casinos a couple of times. This session actually marked the first time in the casinos that took dice setting seriously. |
2013 | $775 | 7/4/2013 | Isle Of Capri | Lake Charles, LA | Craps | Isle Of Capri is now the Horseshoe. This marked the first time I ever played in Lake Charles. Someone else was the shooter, and my Hardway bets hit 32 times!!! At the time, I was still residing in Jacksonville FL, but a software developing contract brought me out to Houston. Also worthy of note: I met my then-future wife just 10 days later. |
2012 | $1500 | 5/9/2012 | Jacks Or Better, Jacksonville | Mayport, FL | Craps | On a casino boat. Bought in for $1500 total, cashed out for $3000. Was yelling "Bull-llackout!!" at least a dozen times. Won $2420 total that day, having also won $920 at the poker table earlier in the day. |
2011 | $1004 | 12/31/2011 | Diamond Casino Cruises | Savannah, GA | Craps | On a casino boat. Diamond went out of business shortly thereafter. I brought in the new year on this casino boat. Funny that my best casino session was the last of the year. This session ended just two hours before the new year came. Someone else did the shooting. |
2010 | $1213 | 3/20/2010 | Mountaineer | Cumberland, WV | Craps, Blackjack | Only $15 of this win was playing blackjack. This happened while I was on a software developing contract in Warrendale PA. I was actually supposed to take a Greyhound bus out to Atlantic City that day, but the bus was sold out, so I went to the Mountaineer instead. |
2009 | $423 | 10/7/2009 | Poker Room, St. John's | Jacksonville, FL | Poker | 2009 was a terrible year for me financially. No craps played at all that year. |
2008 | $1432 | 8/20/2008 | Cherokee | Tulsa, OK | Poker | This occurred while I was on a contract out in Bartlesville OK. In this session, I lost $226 at 1/2 No-Limit, then won $1658 at 2/5 No-Limit, capped off with a $1660 pot win, and all I had was an overpair of queens! Best craps win occurred at the Ameristar casino in Kansas City MO on 11/1/2008. There, I had to buy in for $1000 before I got my money back, plus $750 on a long rally. |
2007 | $1154 | 9/22/2007 | Sun Cruz, Jacksonville | Mayport, FL | Craps | On a casino boat. A huge rally taking it past midnight (I boarded the boat on 9/21) was what happened here. |
2006 | $101 | 11/81/2006 | Sun Cruz, Jacksonville | Mayport, FL | Craps | 2006 was a truly HORRIBLE year for me financially. For a long long time, I couldn't even go to a casino. It was a few weeks after I'd moved out to Jacksonville FL (from the San Diego area in California) that I was able to go to the casinos again. Here, I won $256 playing craps, and lost $155 playing poker. I even said that I'd won for all the wrong reasons. |
2005 | $852 | 11/14/2005 | Hollywood Park | Inglewood, CA | Poker | Playing 15/30 Limit Hold 'Em! Played very little craps that year, my one win there was at the Atlantis casino in Reno NV, where I won $300. |
2004 | $483 | 8/26/2004 | Hollywood Park | Inglewood, CA | Poker | Playing 2/4 Limit Hold 'Em. I was part of the table's share of a Bad Beat jackpot, which paid me $486. Best craps win occurred 10/24/2004 at the Gold Spike casino in Jean NV (I don't think it's there anymore), where I won $219. |
2003 | $767 | 1/21/2003 | Reno Hilton | Sparks, NV | Craps | Reno Hilton is now known as Grand Sierra Resort. This was during a brief stint in Reno. This win was the last in the longest gambling winning streak I've ever had--34 casino wins in a row, and this one was the biggest. |
2002 | $1756 | 8/25/2002 | New York New York | Las Vegas, NV | Craps, Blackjack | First won $225 playing blackjack, then played with $200 of those profits at the craps table, cashing out for $1731. For 21 years, this was my biggest gambling win! |
2001 | $1565 | 12/8/2001 | Monte Carlo | Las Vegas, NV | Craps, Blackjack | Monte Carlo is now known as Park MGM. To this day, this is STILL my favorite gambling moment. Why? Because I was the shooter, and everybody there at the table, was cheering every rool of mine (albeit random rolls). The pit boss said I'd held on to the dice for 40 minutes! The only other time in my life that I felt like I was being treated like royalty, was when I bowled a perfect 300 in a league a year earlier, and the whole alley erupted in cheers when I got that final strike. It was an incredible feeling! It was a similar feeling that night at the craps table. Technically, I'd first won $115 at the blackjack table, then lost $100 at one craps table, then got that back at this craps table, plus about $40, and I was about to leave the table when the previous shooter crapped out. The dealer asked me if I wanted to shoot the dice, and I reluctantly agreed. I turned that $40 profit into $1550. Boy was I glad I made THAT decision!!!! |
